One Little Word

I too am participating in One Little Word, a year-long online class which uses monthly creative prompts centered around a chosen word. I hope it will serve as a reminder to revisit my vision and intentions throughout this year. See my mom's post about the class here.

The word I have chosen for 2011 is "breath."

"Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day
is the rest we take between two deep breaths."
~Etty Hillesum

My sketchbook with the first completed prompts and my album for the year

I considered several other words but ultimately felt that "breath" was the best fit - a reminder to be present in each moment as it is happening. Like right now.

  1. I love this idea! But how to choose a word? That will require some (much!) thought. Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. It does require some thought, some musing. But as the instructor, Ali Edwards, writes...the word often chooses us. When we begin to think about a word to focus on for a year...to know that it will be our companion for awhile, something often keeps popping up.
In fact, I have changed my word. My One Little Word for 2011 is Present. I like its double meaning -- both as mindful and as a gift.

  3. As I have thought about this, I can certainly see what you mean. I made a list of words I thought might work but the word that keeps popping up in my mind is not on that list. Hmmmm... I like your change.

  4. It is an interesting process... so I do suggest "trying out" the word that keeps popping up.

In Ali Edward's One Little Word class -- at Big Picture Scrapbooking (http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/)she suggests using a dictionary and a thesaurus and then writing out the definition and synonyms of your word and adding an inspirational quote which uses your word.
